A Newly Formed Justice League Steals the Spotlight

The following contains major spoilers for DC All In Special #1, on sale now from DC Comics.

The DC Universe is getting a whole new Justice League and they are perfect.

As Booster Gold soars through the skies in “Alpha” by writers Joshua Williamson and Scott Snyder and artist Daniel Sampere, he is soon joined by none other than the Man of Steel himself, who has come bearing good news and a big offer. Of course, Booster Gold isn’t caught entirely off guard by the invitation to join the ranks of the newly formed Justice League Unlimited, though that doesn’t mean the moment is any less special. At least, not simply because it was one Booster Gold had been waiting to be a part of for nearly his entire life.

DC’s most iconic superhero team, the Justice League, has existed in one form or another, if not multiples at a time, ever since the formation of the original Justice League of America in 1960’s The Brave and the Bold #28 by Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky. This initial lineup consisted of Aquaman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, and the Flash. The heroes were brought together by the threat of Starro the Conqueror, who made its first appearance in the issue alongside the Justice League’s longtime sidekick – Snapper Carr.

Since the original Justice League of America was formed, dozens of versions of the team have cropped up in different capacities. Among the most iconic of these is the Justice League International who were first seen together in 1982’s History of the DC Universe #2 by Marv Wolfman and George Perez. Such expanded versions of the Justice League provided international support networks beyond what the primary JLA could offer leading to more versions of the team such as the Justice League Dark.

Unfortunately, this opened the door for Amanda Waller to begin making major moves towards launching the all-out war against the world’s superpowered population that was chronicled in the recently concluded Absolute Power crossover event.
